To the left is one of the last remaining Dandy Gram newsletters in
existence today.  The printed sheet came out 4 times a year and
the president of the club was
Alan Jennings, then a high school
student.  His dad ran the Washington-Youree Hotel and Alan lived
there, conducted the business of the fan club and met with many
other teens, one who formed the Rolling Stones local fan club.
Alan now lives in Baton Rouge where he writes. As a reward to our
listeners, we at the station set about finding the most popular
groups that we could get to bring in for personal appearances like
the Dave Clark Five, The TV Monkey group, Paul Revere and the
Raiders and others.  However, we could not get the Beatles
because we only had the Hirsch then, and they would not perform
in that small of a venue.   Elvis would only perform for charity with
us to guarantee a sum that we were not able to meet.  So, because
of Alan and Jill of the RS fan club, and the popularity of the group,
we scheduled the Rolling Stones for an appearance in Shreveport.
Even if you were around at that time and possibly at the show you
may not know that there were rumors of an impending riot if we
brought that group in.  The Rolling Stones were a cut-below in their
off stage demeanor, but once on stage they showed what they
were really made of.  I enjoyed the show with a 38 pistol inside my
coat pocket, just in case!
